Vacation 2007 - Day 10

October 1

Dad flew home, mom stayed in Lyon another two weeks to bake cookies and I drove off in a rented Hibma Estate Limo headed for Switzerland. There were two lanes at the border crossing so I went left and the two guards pulled over the car in front of me. My lucky day didn't have to buy the Swiss Sticker required to drive on the interstate.

Turned off the interstate on the north side of Lake Geneva. Once off the interstate it does not matter where one drives it is a scenic drive. Short interruption in my progress, Mr. & Mrs. Swiss Farmer were moving their cows. GPS

View out the windshield.

Toto, I do not believe we are in Texas anymore. My favorite picture from the trip. Looks better when viewed at a large, larger or largest size. GPS

The road was my kind of straight. Notice they did not waste their time painting a center line. Parts of the road were 20% narrower which was ok until a semi comes. I found the widest bit of road, stopped and wished I had taken a picture afterwards.

Another 4 miles and another valley to take a picture of. GPS

The road is wide enough for a center line when it passes through downtown Wald.

This button folded the rented Hibma Estate Limo's side mirrors, which seemed not the least bit frivolous.

This is a two lane road.

Milk man came today.

Bossy the cow.
This is what the area looks like in the winter. Can see why skiing is the money maker.

Had seen poles like this, during the day, these were near the hotel and went to get a picture. A mother pushing a stroller had good enough English to explain that they were birth announcements. This father was well connected because of the number of poles. Friends and the organizations, he belongs to, put them up. The mother said only two where put up when her son was born. They stay up 6-12 months and the people who put them up will take them down provided one brides them with dinner, wine or something of the sort. Little more impressive then the a stork stuck in the front yard.

View out my hotel window.

The rented Hibma Estate Limo. Had rented a Renault Clio so this 115 hp Ford Focus Ghia 1.8 TDCi was a step up. Was a dog until 1800 rpm by which time the turbo had spun up to boost (184lb/ft @ 1,850rpm) and away it would go up the mountain so I was a happy camper. The best part was that the windshield was cracked in two places, just like the real Hibma Estate Limo. Almost brought that to the attention of the rental company but did not know what I would end up with, so left well enough alone.

Would have been an nice sunset had the mountain not been in the way.
