Vacation 2007 - Day 11
October 2
Sunrise
The favorite Swiss watering trough.
Went to Pilatus, a 7,000 ft mountain west of Luzern. Been there, done that, didn’t get the t-shirt. On a crystal clear day it would be worth it but on a hazy day it is a 33 minute long, 9 mph, $49.42 gondola ride. Would have had more fun driving the back roads of Switzerland. Rode up with two girls, from Australia, who had been traveling Europe since August and had another nine weeks to go before spending Christmas, in Toronto, with an uncle. This was a highly rated a tourist trap based on the amount of English heard. Know one is away from home when one asks anyone talking non-UK English where they are from. GPS
Vierwaldstätter See or Lake Lucerne if that is easier to pronounce.
Thee Alps.
If the gondola is too boring a ride, paragliding is an option.
After finding a grocery store to spend my leftover Swiss Francs on chocolate and putting $52.33 of diesel in the rented Limo it was off to Germany. The backup entering Switzerland on the A5.
Loved German construction zones, take a two lane autobahn and fit four lanes on it. The fast lane is 2.5m [8'-2"] wide. US DOTs should learn how to double the capacity of a construction zone.
