Corn Harvest - Texas Style

August 23

Neighbor's landscaping, rather unique for this part of town. The raccoons have to love it.

Replacing a couple bolts in the auger.

Taking this picture thru the pickup window made for off colors.

Fuel pickup is on the right tank and the fuel had transferred to the left tank. So no forward progress until it was pull to the other side of the road to get fuel in the right tank and then it was pull started.

Discovered a couple months ago that one of his truckers had stolen $40,000 worth of grain over the last couple years. Not enough evidence for the police to do anything. He sued to stop payment on the last load of beans and the trial starts in December. The lawyer costs the same as a truck load of beans but a least the trucker will not get the money.

Sick looking field of corn. Looked normal until 3" of rain over 4 days had turned it blackish.

Good ear.

Bad ear.

Each stalk had one ear and half had a good ear and the rest had something worse. Figured to average 50 bushel/ac on this 500 acre field. His other fields had averaged between 65-75. Not too bad concidering it had less then a 1.5" of rain in June and an .5" in July. Some are getting less then 40 bu/ac so he wasn't complaining too much.

Has 4400 acres, 1000 acres of wheat, this years money maker. Locked in his inputs when they were cheap and sold the wheat for $9-12/bu. 1100 acres of soybeans, 1300 acres of cotton and 1000 acres of corn.

JD 9750 STS with a 6W row corn head.
