The first day of harvest since Sept 30. The fields aren't too wet (muddy) but the beans are. Beans were 17% at the start of the day and would drop a point or two as the day wore on.

Used the rain delay to work on the bean head. Had flipped the sickle guards upside down to get the sickle closer to the ground.
Dad watching John back the bean head out of the shed. The 4-wheeler making itself useful.
Went 100 yards and slugged the feederhouse.
Making progress went 250 yards before slugging the feederhouse.
Was digging in the dirt so tipped the head back.
Instant yield was 52.5 bu at 16.0%
JD 4000 on a 13" Westfield auger. The elevator was docking 2% for each point over 13%. One neighbor was running his beans thru his dryer. John is hoping for some warm days so just air will dry them.
8:40 pm, beans got too tough and they had to quit at 11:30. This section was 52.7 bu/ac at 15.2% and the average (after 89 acres) was 47.6 bu/ac. Had covered 89 acres in 8 hours.
