Vacation 2010 - Day 15
Saturday July 10
Today was the first day of the Flying Legends show.
Some WWII reenactors with a MASH tent. Gave one something to watch while waiting for the gate to the flight line
to open at 9:00.
Some dressed up just to attend.
P-51s
Spitfires
The British have an interesting way to claim their territory. Can see how a windbreak might be useful when it's 40° cooler but when it's 90° any breeze is welcomed.
Due to the record high temps there were endless announcements from over PA system to drink plenty of water, wear a hat and to use sun cream (UK for sunscreen lotion). The temp was too high but it was cooler then Dallas and it was not raining.
Did wish I had had a chair to sit in. Stood and sat in my spot for 6:45. Did sudoku puzzles from yesterday's Times while I waited for 3:40 for the planes to start flying.
Crowd at 13:10
Crowd at 13:55 just before the flying started at 14:00
It is the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain, so the first flight was eight Spitfires and a Hispano HA-1112 Buchón (Spanish clone of the Messerschmidt 109G) painted to match its role in the '68 movie The Battle of Britain.
Hawker Fury the best looking plane in the show.
Vought F4U-7 Corsair
B-17
The airshow photographer twist.
Hawker Hurricane, Avro Lancaster & a Supermarine Spitfire
Polikarpov I-16
The Breitling wing walkers "trying" to touch hands.
17:00 the show ends with a flyby of every plane that wants to make a pass.
The only positive, getting reacclimated to Dallas temperatures.
